In this new educational institute of the Hohe Tauern National Park, young people from Europe learn about and research into water as the basic element of life.
The purpose is to awaken and refine their understanding of water as an indispensible resource for life, to appreciate its value, its dangers, its conservation and its use.
Interdisciplinary projects, give school-children, youth groups and students the opportunity to use all their senses in the discovery of water in the natural environment. School-children learn to reflect critically on their behaviour with regard to water consumption and to develop strategies of action for long-lasting use. In the House of Water professional competence is united with experience. The searchers for the solutions for the future become representatives, able to discuss and act on the theme of the elixir of life - water.
The House of Water is in the High Tauri National Park (at an altitude of 1,440 metres), in the hamlet of Ranch near of St. Jakob, in the Defereggen valley, in Osttirol. The village is about 42 km from the capital of the province of Lienz and about 190 km from Innsbruck.
